Legislation on children in Mozambique

Full title:

Main legislation on children in Mozambique

Description:

The present compilation of legal acts comprises of texts which relate to the protection of children. To make consultation simpler, legal norms related to children have been divided into six main fields, namely the right to equality and non-discrimination, the right to survival, the right to development, the right to protection, the right to participation and legal incapacity.

In addition, as a starting point, an attempt has been made to identify examples of rights and other matters related to children, which are the object of this compilation. The identification of rights undertaken will not always correspond to the whole legal act being transcribed; it just corresponds to the part that is relevant to the issue at hand.

A report on statutory child protection in Mozambique

Full title:

Report on statutory child protection in Mozambique

Description:

This report is a legislative analysis of the care and protection of children in Mozambique. The analysis involves a literature review on the current state of legislative protection for children in the country as well as of various consultative processes carried out between August and December 2003 in the south, centre and north of the country. The review examines policies and policy-implementation that seek to actualise the rights of children as expressed in the Constitution and various international and regional instruments. Amongst the various achievements that have been made in this respect, it is also the case the laws have weaknesses, inasmuch as certain aspects of the rights of the child are not properly addressed; these aspects include child prostitution and the trafficking of children.

Note that this report is in Portuguese.
